Murals: “Aufgang” / Private residence

This work is loosely related to another body of work of mine I call metabolist collages. Designed for the walls and ceiling of a relatively narrow staircase in an 18th century building on Lake Zurich, it immerses the viewer in a combination of abstract shapes and elements of buildings that climb up the staircase like a vine. Like in my other collages involving architectural elements, it plays off the notion that dwellings are like living organisms and units are cells, as envisioned by the metabolist architecture movement, which was formed by students of Kenzo Tange in Japan in the 1950s.
